Oshawa’s best-kept secret, Halenda’s Fine Foods, is now available in select stores across Ontario. This award-winning processor of quality fresh meat, smoked and prepared meats and deli meats recently took home top honours at the 2011 Ontario Finest Meat Competition, the largest competition of its kind in Canada.
Halenda’s was honoured with the Platinum awards for Smoked Back Bacon, Suduk, Lacshinken, and Home Style Turkey. They won Gold for Smoked Suckling Ham, Csabai Hot, Hand Carved Oven Roasted Turkey and Necken. They also received a Silver award for the Orange Smokies and Dry Cured Beef.
With the highest overall score in the competition, Halenda’s Fine Foods was also awarded the 2011 Ron Usborne Award of Excellence.
When Halenda’s Fine Foods first opened in 1979 it was Richard Halenda with his mother and father working together at one location in Oshawa. Today, the company, still family owned and operated, employs more than 120 people and serves the Durham region in four locations as well as maintaining a presence at the St. Jacob’s Market in Waterloo.
The award-winning products are made at the company’s processing facilities in Oshawa and in Mississauga and embrace a combination of both modern techniques and trends with old-world traditions and tastes.
The Oshawa community has voted Halenda’s #1 and now more Ontario consumers can get a “taste” of the products that have been winning the company award after award.
